IT’S SCHOLARSHIP TIME
AGAIN
In its third year, our society has made changes to its scholarship program. Four $500 scholarships will be awarded. This change came about because of the mediocre response for scholarships over the first two years. The application form has changed to make it easier to apply. The application form and instructions will be accessible over the Internet and can be submit as an e-mail attachment.
Attached to this newsletter is an “Oo Syak Gee Lu Society Scholarship Application” form and instructions. Please pass on copies to Oo Syak Gee Lu Society members who are or will be full time students this fall. The instruction provides the e-mail address to contact for a Microsoft Word format application form.
If you are not yet a member, you can still apply for membership before the June 15, 2001 scholarship application deadline. To apply for Oo Syak Gee Lu Society membership, please call Ed Chang at 623-5910 (H) or 543-4227(W). The one-time application fee is $5.
Please don’t wait until the last minute. Get your scholarship application in way before the June 15, 2001 deadline.
The winners will be announced and introduced at our August 11, 2001 Annual Banquet.

ANNUAL BANQUET
The Oo Syak Gee Lu Society Annual Banquet will be changing location. After many years being held at the Yong Sing Restaurant, our annual banquet on Saturday, August 11, 2001, will be held at the Wo Fat Empress Restaurant at the corner of Maunakea and Hotel Streets.
The Yong Sing Restaurant will be closing at the end of March 2001, and its future is undecided. It has been reported that other Chinese banquet facilities closed or planning to close include the Sea Fortune Restaurant and the China House restaurant at Ala Moana.
We thank the Yong Sing Restaurant for many years of great, personable service. We will miss the delicious food and great service they gave us for so many years. It is like we have lost a place to go home to.
An announcement of the annual banquet menu and price will be provided shortly.
