IT’S SCHOLARSHIP TIME AGAIN

FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS TO BE

AWARDED IN 2002

In its fourth year, four $750 scholarships will be awarded to deserving Oo Syak Gee Lu Society student members. Last year four $500 scholarships were available but only three were awarded. Someone missed out on $500. There is very little effort needed to complete the application form. It is attached, and it is obvious that it is almost effortless to complete. The completed application form and high school or college transcript can be scanned and submitted as an e-mail attachment.

Attached to this newsletter is an “Oo Syak Gee Lu Society Scholarship Application” form and instructions. Please pass on copies to Oo Syak Gee Lu Society members who are or will be full time students this fall.

If you are not yet a member, you can still apply for membership before the June 8, 2002 scholarship application deadline. To apply for Oo Syak Gee Lu Society membership, please call Ed Chang at 623-5910 (H) or 543-4227(W). The one-time membership application fee is just $5.

Please don’t wait until the last minute. Get your scholarship application in way before the June 8, 2002 deadline.

The winners will be announced and introduced at our August 2002 Annual Banquet. Do not miss out on these scholarship awards!

BANQUET BANNER

After months of waiting, our society now owns a beautiful, expensive silk banner to proudly display at our annual banquets. Again, we must thank Mrs. Eunice Chang Lum Chun for her generosity in donating this banner to our society. Mrs. Chun has designated past President Edmund W. K. Chang the steward of this valuable piece of art.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

The Board of Directors reminds you that the quarterly meetings are open to the membership. These meetings are held on the third Sunday of January, April, July and October. Although members who are not part of the BOD cannot vote at these meetings, they can voice their opinions once properly recognized by the President.

Our Board of Directors meetings have a new home. We now meet at the Doong Kong Lau Restaurant in the Chinese Cultural Plaza. Doong Kong Lau is located on the ground floor facing the river. The food is tasty, the place is big enough for our meetings, and it is reasonably quiet. After the meetings, a generous lunch is served. Our Society does not charge its members for this lunch. Call Donna Chang at 537-4015 or Edith Won at 373-2658 so enough tables can be arranged at the Doong Kong Lau Restaurant. The next BOD Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, April 21, 2002. The meeting starts promptly at 11:00 a.m. and lunch is served immediately after the meeting.
